Indian Stock Market Opens Higher Amid Falling Crude Oil Prices

Mumbai, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market opened on a positive note on Tuesday, September 23, 2026. By 9:20 AM, the Sensex had risen by 260 points, or 0.36%, reaching 74,782, while the Nifty was up by 83 points, or 0.35%, at 23,411.

This upward trend was supported by gains in metal and FMCG stocks, with Nifty Metal and Nifty FMCG leading the way. Other indices, including Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Financial Services, Nifty Commodities, Nifty Infra, Nifty Realty, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Services, and Nifty Auto, were all in the green. The only exception was Nifty IT, which was trading in the red.

Both mid-cap and small-cap stocks also experienced gains. The Nifty Midcap 100 Index rose by 188 points, or 0.29%, to 62,145, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 Index gained 119 points, or 0.60%, reaching 19,934.

Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Steel, Asian Paints, Ultratech Cement, L&T, Adani Ports, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Titan, HUL, Indigo, ITC, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, and Bharti Airtel. Conversely, TCS, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, and BEL were among the laggards.

Experts noted that the market’s structure has been technically weak in recent days, showing signs of a downturn. To reverse this trend, significant triggers will be necessary. However, given the current macroeconomic conditions, especially rising inflation in developed countries, such a turnaround appears unlikely.

They further highlighted that domestic liquidity is providing support to the broader market. Strong growth prospects have attracted investments in several mid-cap and small-cap companies, although valuations in these segments have risen considerably.

Recent declines in crude oil prices, attributed to a potential easing of tensions in the Middle East, have contributed to the market’s positive sentiment. The benchmark Brent crude is now priced at $98.21 per barrel.
