
New Delhi, June 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Myanmar’s President U Min Aung Hlaing on Monday. Following their discussion, PM Modi emphasized that Myanmar is crucial for India’s ‘Neighborhood First’, ‘Act East’, and Indo-Pacific policies. He highlighted their agreement to collaborate on maritime security, cyber security, and other areas.
PM Modi shared on the social media platform X, “I had a productive meeting with President U Min Aung Hlaing. We are honored that he chose India for his first foreign visit as President. It is equally delightful that he began his journey from Bodh Gaya, blessed by Lord Buddha. We reviewed the full spectrum of India-Myanmar relations. Myanmar is vital for India’s ‘Neighborhood First’, ‘Act East’, and Indo-Pacific policies.”
In another post, the Prime Minister noted, “Our discussions covered deepening cooperation in trade, rare earths, healthcare, connectivity, heritage restoration, and capacity building. We also agreed to work together on maritime security, cyber security, and other sectors.”
Earlier, during extensive talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, PM Modi and President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.
The Prime Minister stated that India is ready to assist in advancing the peace and dialogue process in Myanmar. He also mentioned sharing experiences related to federal governance and economic development.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X that the discussions between PM Modi and the Myanmar President were comprehensive, and both countries agreed to enhance their partnership for peace, progress, and prosperity. He noted that India remains a reliable neighbor and the first partner in times of crisis for Myanmar.
PM Modi reiterated that in line with India’s Neighborhood First, Act East, and maritime policies, India will continue to support Myanmar.
