Lebanons President Aoun Promises to Implement Framework Agreement with Israel in Call with Trump

Beirut, June 28: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump late Saturday night. During the call, President Aoun committed that the Lebanese government would fulfill its responsibilities in implementing the U.S.-mediated framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel. This information was shared in a statement from the Lebanese presidential office.

Aoun also expressed hope that the U.S. would help prevent violations of the agreement and ensure that all promises made under the deal are honored. This includes pressuring Israel to withdraw from its occupied territories in southern Lebanon, allowing the Lebanese army to be deployed to internationally recognized borders.

According to the Xinhua news agency, Trump reiterated Washington’s support for Lebanon and its people, promising to work towards implementing the deal and restoring security and stability in the country.

The U.S. President stated that Washington would support Lebanon’s sovereignty, freedom, and territorial integrity, as well as the extension of state authority throughout the country via its armed forces.

At the end of the call, President Trump expressed his eagerness to meet Aoun in Washington soon.

On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that Israel and Lebanon had reached a framework agreement for ongoing peace and security. This agreement was signed at the conclusion of a new round of ambassador-level talks in Washington, D.C., which aims to reinstate a ceasefire between the two nations.

During the signing ceremony, Rubio stated, “Today is a good day as we are pleased to announce that, with U.S. mediation and support, a framework agreement between Lebanon’s sovereign government and, of course, the Israeli government will create a framework for lasting peace and security.”

The goal of this framework is to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, dismantle Hezbollah’s military structure, and assist the Israeli army in returning to its borders once security threats have been eliminated.
