Mumbai Police Seize ₹2.53 Crore Worth of Drugs in Major Operation

Mumbai, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Mumbai’s anti-narcotics cell, based in Worli, has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal drug sales. On October 6, officers seized nearly ₹2.53 crore worth of nitrazepam and alprazolam tablets.

According to a press release, the operation was conducted under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act. The events unfolded between 10:40 PM and 12:40 AM on October 6, with the case registered on the same day.

While investigating illegal drug transactions in Mumbai, police received a tip-off about a person selling narcotic pills in Dr. Zakir Hussain Nagar, Govandi. After confirming the information, authorities searched the suspect’s residence.

During the search, police uncovered 4,500 nitrazepam tablets from the Nitcore-10 brand, weighing approximately 2.475 kilograms and valued at around ₹1.98 crore. Additionally, they seized 5,300 alprazolam tablets from the Procalm-1 brand, weighing about 689 grams and worth ₹55.92 lakh. In total, 9,800 tablets were confiscated, bringing the overall value to approximately ₹2.53 crore.

This operation was carried out under the guidance of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner (Crime) Anil Kumbhar, and Additional Commissioner (Crime) Krishnakant Upadhyay. Senior officials from the anti-narcotics cell and Worli unit supervised the entire operation.

The police are continuing their investigation to determine the source of these drugs and the extent of the trafficking network. It is important to note that both nitrazepam and alprazolam belong to the benzodiazepine class of medications, which are known for their calming effects on the brain.
