Mumbai, April 19: Mumbai Police are now fully engaged in action mode. A strict campaign against drug networks is underway in the city. In this context, the Anti-Narcotics Cell conducted a raid in the Khar area and arrested a foreign national, seizing cocaine and MDMA (Ecstasy) tablets worth ₹2.21 crore.
According to police, the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) team from the Worli unit was on patrol. Around 11:15 PM on Saturday night, the team spotted a man of African descent standing suspiciously with a side bag behind the C-Sand building on Shirley Rajan Road, Khar West. Upon seeing the police vehicle, he attempted to flee, prompting the team to stop and question him. The accused identified himself as Ije Ezekiel Njukwu, 39, originally from Nigeria but currently residing in Nalasopara.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that his bag contained cocaine and MDMA tablets, which he intended to sell to customers. A search of the bag uncovered 113 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately ₹2.14 crore in the international market. Additionally, 45 yellow MDMA tablets weighing 24 grams were found, valued at ₹7.20 lakh.
Police investigations revealed that the seized tablets were rectangular, with “Audi RS” inscribed on one side and a four-ring mark on the other. Authorities suspect these drugs were supplied to high-profile party circuits and among youth. The arrested individual also had a Nigerian passport, a valid Indian visa, and two mobile phones in his possession. Police are now examining mobile data, call records, chats, and digital payments to identify the accused’s customers and suppliers.
Officials stated that following the drug party incident at the Nesco complex in Goregaon, police are on high alert. Surveillance has been intensified at hotels, clubs, party hubs, and in the western suburbs.
