
Patna, April 18: In a significant achievement, the railway police in Bihar’s Rohtas district have arrested the main suspect involved in a sensational robbery case from Madhya Pradesh. During this operation, authorities recovered cash worth millions and gold jewelry.
The arrest took place at the Dehri-on-Sone railway station, where the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended Kamlesh Kumar on Saturday as he allegedly attempted to flee.
According to Railway ASP Alok Kumar Singh, the suspect tried to escape upon noticing the police, but officers quickly subdued him.
During the search, officials seized ₹15.72 lakh in cash and approximately 61 grams of gold jewelry, valued at over ₹9 lakh. The suspect was carrying his share of the loot from a recent high-profile robbery.
Investigations revealed that Kamlesh Kumar was one of five individuals involved in a daylight heist at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. In this incident, criminals made off with cash and gold worth up to ₹15 crore, including ₹20 lakh in cash and a significant amount of gold jewelry.
The robbery was executed in just 15 minutes, during which the bank manager was assaulted, and gunfire was used to instill fear. The assailants took employees and customers hostage before fleeing the scene on motorcycles.
RPF Inspector Ramvilas Ram stated that vigilant constables Umakant and Mohammad Nazim noticed suspicious activity during their routine patrol, leading to the successful arrest.
Subsequent searches revealed valuable items. The suspect, a resident of Nalanda district in Bihar, is now being interrogated by police teams, including officials from Madhya Pradesh, who have arrived in Rohtas for further investigation.
ASP Alok Kumar Singh described the arrest as a significant success and mentioned that a recommendation would be sent to reward the RPF team for their swift and effective action.
This arrest not only resolves a crucial link in the high-profile Singrauli robbery case but also highlights the role of vigilant policing in preventing criminals from crossing state borders.
