Mumbai, April 24: A new case has emerged in Mumbai following allegations of religious conversion and sexual exploitation in Nashik, Maharashtra. Reports indicate that a young man targeted Hindu female colleagues at his workplace. After these allegations surfaced, the Mumbai police apprehended the suspect.
One victim claimed that the accused engaged in lewd conversations with her and made remarks related to religion.
Officials from the Mumbai police confirmed the arrest. The company where both the accused and the victim worked has since shut down. The accused held no significant position within the firm; he was merely a colleague.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that the suspect had engaged in inappropriate chats with several women. Besides the primary victim, three other women had also been subjected to his lewd comments. The police plan to record statements from these three women, in addition to the complainant, to include them in the ongoing investigation.
Previously, multiple female employees in Nashik accused their colleagues at a multinational IT firm of sexual harassment and religious conversion attempts. Nine cases have been filed against six individuals, including a team leader and an HR representative, under allegations of sexual harassment and religious insensitivity.
The accusations detailed in the nine FIRs include sexual harassment, repeated physical relations under the pretense of marriage, forced attempts at religious conversion, and religious disrespect. Some complainants also reported being encouraged or pressured to adopt certain religious practices, such as changing dietary habits and following specific rituals.
