Mumbai, May 18: The Mumbai Crime Branch’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) has made a significant breakthrough in the bombing incident that occurred outside an ashram in Murshidabad district, West Bengal. The CIU arrested two suspects from Borivali, Mumbai, in connection with the case.
According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered at the Baharampur police station in Murshidabad. The incident took place shortly after the announcement of election results in West Bengal, creating a climate of fear in the area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Roki Khan (24), a resident of Kandi Hotel Para and a driver by profession, and Sahadat Sarkar (35), a laborer from the village of Natun Pura.
Police reports indicate that the case was filed based on a complaint from Pashupatinath Saha, a grocery store owner residing in the Majherpara Post Office area. In his complaint, he alleged that Ali Hussain, also known as Laden, Hasan SK, and three other unidentified accomplices were involved in the incident and are currently at large.
According to the complainant, on May 12, unknown individuals tore down photos from electric poles in front of the Maa Durga temple located near the ashram. Subsequently, on the night of May 13, around 10:45 PM, the suspects, along with their accomplices, threw socket bombs into an empty field in front of the ashram, causing chaos and disturbing the peace. The following morning, on May 14, around 10:30 AM, the suspects arrived on a motorcycle and threatened the complainant, warning him not to inform the police about the incident, or they would bomb again.
The police registered the case on May 15 and initiated an investigation. During the inquiry, it was discovered that the wanted suspects fled to Mumbai via the Gitanjali Express to evade arrest. Following this, the Mumbai Crime Branch was alerted. Acting on the information, the CIU team set up a blockade at Borivali railway station and apprehended both suspects.
After their arrest, the Mumbai Crime Branch completed the necessary court formalities and secured a two-day transit remand to hand over the suspects to the West Bengal police.
