Mukul Chaudharys Fearless Innings Stuns Cricket Legends: Sunil Gavaskar

Kolkata, April 10: An exhilarating match took place at Eden Gardens on Thursday, where the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced off against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. Mukul Chaudhary of LSG played a remarkable innings, scoring an unbeaten 54 runs off just 27 balls, including seven sixes and one four, leading his team to a thrilling victory by three wickets on the last ball.

Chaudhary’s performance has captivated cricket legends.

Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Amul Cricket Live’, praised Chaudhary’s explosive innings, stating, “This talented player showcased a fearless approach. What I love about the IPL is that we witness something new every day. In the last match, we saw David Miller from Delhi Capitals almost secure a win against Gujarat Titans, but that innings was from a renowned World Cup star. Here, we have Mukul Chaudhary stepping up to help his team cross the finish line. He is a young player batting at number five for Rajasthan in domestic T20 cricket. He comes into the IPL, plays a stunning innings, and everyone talks about him.”

Gavaskar continued, “The confidence he displayed and the way he executed his shots were truly impressive. At the stage he came in to bat, he showed calmness, took his time, got set, and started hitting the ball out of the park. He even played a helicopter shot, reminiscent of MS Dhoni’s glory days. He refused to take easy singles because he trusted his ability to hit big shots and finish the game. He was a sight to behold.”

Gavaskar added, “This victory against KKR was crucial for LSG. They were in a tough spot, but with the help of their youth, they secured an incredible win. Mitchell Marsh didn’t score much, Aiden Markram managed only 22 runs, and both Pant and Pooran struggled. Despite their main batsmen faltering, LSG saved themselves and clinched the win.”

He noted, “Last year, they were entirely dependent on their key players. This season, they are winning without relying solely on them. However, Nicholas Pooran’s poor form is a concern. He looked out of touch against KKR and was sent in to bat in the middle order, as they wanted explosive batting there. Pooran was swinging his bat at every ball, hoping for contact, but he is not the Pooran we know. LSG needs to find a way to restore Pooran’s confidence.”

Gavaskar concluded, “In their run chase, despite being 104 for 5 after 13 overs with all their main batsmen in the dugout, they still managed to win. This has boosted LSG’s confidence. They know their fearless young players will perform well at some point, and that belief can take them far.”

In terms of the match, LSG successfully chased down KKR’s target of 182 runs, achieving victory with three wickets in hand on the last ball.
