New Delhi, September 21 (Daily Kiran) : Islamic scholar Mufti Wajahat Qasmi recently shared his views on several significant topics, including Italy’s burqa ban in schools and the postponement of a planned protest by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in New Delhi.
Discussing the burqa ban, Qasmi emphasized the importance of respecting a country’s laws. “Every nation takes measures for its security and order,” he stated. “Italy has enacted this law based on its circumstances, and we must honor that.”
The AIMPLB decided to delay its protest against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) after the Delhi police denied them permission. Qasmi expressed concern over the board’s methods, questioning its role in advocating for personal laws. He criticized the board for inciting tensions over issues like triple talaq and the Waqf Bill, stating that many members have historically provoked the Muslim community against the government.
He condemned the board’s attempts to escalate tensions through press conferences despite the lack of approval. “I denounce this behavior,” he said, urging the AIMPLB to reflect on whether its members are genuinely serving the interests of the Muslim community.
Qasmi also took issue with former Vice President Hamid Ansari’s comments regarding Hindu right-wing extremism. He remarked that since leaving office, Ansari has consistently targeted Hindus, suggesting that his statements are unbecoming of someone of his stature.
He noted, “It would have been better if he spoke out against incidents like those in Pahalgam or the actions of terrorist organizations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.” Qasmi added that Ansari, who has benefited from the country, should avoid making disparaging remarks.
Regarding Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath‘s assertion that Ansari’s comments aim to tarnish India’s image, Qasmi agreed. He stated, “This country operates on tax revenue, not foreign funds. Despite benefiting from the nation, Ansari continues to target a significant section of society, particularly Hindus.”
Qasmi concluded by urging Ansari to reconsider his rhetoric and avoid such divisive statements.
