Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Election Commission Amid SIR Controversy
Rahul Gandhi accuses the Election Commission of misconduct, warning of consequences amid the ongoing SIR controversy.

New Delhi, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : In New Delhi, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) amid ongoing controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Review (SIR). On Wednesday, he accused the ECI and election officials of misconduct, stating, “The time will come, and we will not spare you.”
Using the social media platform X, Gandhi asserted that “vote theft is a crime against the people of India and a direct assault on our Constitution.” He claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the Election Commission have committed acts of treason. “Justice will prevail,” he added.
Gandhi also shared a video where he directly addressed the election authorities, saying, “What you are doing is wrong.” He emphasized, “This is treason. The time will come! We will catch you; you will not escape.”
This controversy was sparked by a report from a major newspaper alleging that over a span of ten months, two election commissioners had formally objected to decisions made by the Commission on 14 occasions. According to the report, these objections were related to various decisions and procedures, including claims that commissioners were kept in the dark regarding issues related to adding new voters and removing names from the voter list.
Earlier in the day, the ECI dismissed the newspaper’s report, which claimed that two election commissioners had raised “official objections” to several decisions made without their knowledge. Sources familiar with the matter stated that no election commissioner had formally registered any disagreement with the Commission’s decisions. They clarified that the two commissioners had only made some comments, which were subsequently reviewed by the Commission.
