Bhopal, October 15 (Daily Kiran): The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a major Diwali gift for over 4.5 lakh pensioners and their families, increasing the Dearness Relief (DR) rates for retirees under both the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav approved the decision, which will provide additional financial relief to pensioners starting September 1, 2025, with the revised payments reflected in October 2025 pensions.

According to the Finance Department’s order issued on Wednesday evening, the DR for pensioners under the Sixth Pay Commission has been raised from 246% to 252%, while those under the Seventh Pay Commission will now receive 55%, up from 53%. The revised DR will also apply to additional pensions provided to retirees aged 80 years and above.
This decision covers all categories of pensioners, including those receiving superannuation, retirement, disability, and compensation pensions. Family pensioners and those receiving compassionate allowances will also benefit, subject to eligibility under government rules.
The department clarified that pensioners drawing commuted pensions will receive the enhanced DR on their original (pre-commutation) pension amount. Retirees from autonomous bodies, boards, and corporations who received lump-sum settlements as per financial rules will also be eligible for the revised benefit.
All pension disbursing authorities have been instructed to ensure accurate and timely payments as per the Madhya Pradesh Treasury Code 2020. The Pension Directorate has also been directed to conduct sample checks in bank branches and resolve any discrepancies in the following month’s disbursement.
This move, finalized during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, underscores the government’s commitment to supporting its retired employees. The increase in pension and family pension is expected to put an additional burden of around ₹170 crore on the state exchequer for the current financial year.
