MP Government Urged to Release Mortgaged Land of Farmers Linked to Closed Development Bank

Bhopal, August 21: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijaya Singh, has written to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, urging the immediate release of mortgaged land belonging to farmers associated with the now-defunct Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (Land Development Bank).

In his letter, Singh referenced an email from Kedar Sirohi, a former member of the Agricultural Advisory Council of Madhya Pradesh, highlighting that despite the closure or liquidation of the bank, many farmers’ lands are still recorded as mortgaged in revenue records.

Singh emphasized that farmers who have repaid loans or deposited amounts as per agreements are facing significant issues, as their lands remain mortgaged. This situation complicates essential tasks such as selling, transferring, and dividing their properties.

He stated that it is unjust to keep the lands of farmers, who have cleared their debts, mortgaged for years. This practice infringes on their land rights and forces them to navigate bureaucratic hurdles at revenue offices.

Singh urged the Chief Minister to issue clear directives to the relevant officials in the Cooperation and Revenue Departments, ensuring that eligible farmers’ lands are released from mortgage promptly.

Additionally, he called for necessary amendments to be made in the revenue records and the MP Bhulekh portal after the release of the mortgage, to prevent any future complications in land transactions, transfers, or divisions.

He requested that the state government prioritize this issue and take necessary actions to resolve all pending cases across the state.
