Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh), 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). Thippiri Tirupati, also known as Devji — a top Maoist leader accused of killing more than 131 security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region — was gunned down today in an encounter in the Rampachodavaram forest area. The development was confirmed by Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Additional Director General (ADG) Mahesh Chandra Ladda.

ADG Mahesh Chandra said a fierce gunbattle broke out early this morning between security forces and Maoists, resulting in the deaths of six to seven insurgents. Among those neutralised was Devji, one of the most wanted Maoist commanders in the region.
Devji was active along the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border and had been appointed General Secretary by the Maoist organisation. He was accused of orchestrating multiple deadly attacks in Bastar, leading to the killing of more than 131 security personnel over the years.
The government had announced a reward of over ₹1 crore for his capture, dead or alive.
Security officials say Devji’s death is a major setback for Maoist operations in the region.
