New Delhi, April 1: Amid the current situation in Iran, hundreds of Indian students are trapped in various border areas, making their safe return a significant challenge. As conditions continue to deteriorate, students and their families are anxious and are urging the Indian government for prompt evacuation.
Due to limited resources and a slow process, students are being evacuated one by one, leading to increased delays and anxiety.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, shared in a video message that 26 Indian students are still stranded in Iran. Additionally, around 84 Indian students are stuck at the Iran-Azerbaijan border, where only ten students are being allowed to cross at a time. They are being provided with a code to facilitate their exit.
This process is taking a considerable amount of time. Students are in constant contact with their families, expressing their distress. Their relatives in India are also growing increasingly worried. These students have been trapped for 15 to 20 days and are facing significant challenges. Although the Indian embassy is providing full support and ensuring access to necessary supplies, the situation in Iran remains concerning. Safety is not guaranteed.
Furthermore, approximately 53 Indian students are stranded at the Iran-Armenia border. These students are extremely distressed, reporting that they repeatedly book tickets, only to have them canceled within two to three hours. They are continuously calling for assistance.
Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan appealed to the Indian government, stating that several students have been safely evacuated home so far. He urged that the remaining stranded students be rescued as soon as possible. He suggested consolidating the students in one location to facilitate a secure return home.
Dr. Khan emphasized that their parents are deeply worried, and the students themselves are feeling anxious and uncertain. He called for immediate intervention from the Indian embassy in Iran to ensure that all stranded Indian students are safely escorted across the border.
