New Delhi, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions on Thursday with Iran’s President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian regarding the escalating tensions in the region. He emphasized the necessity for solutions through dialogue and diplomacy.
Modi expressed concerns over the safety of citizens and the damage to infrastructure, reaffirming India’s commitment to peace, stability, and secure transit.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Modi stated, “I spoke with Iran’s President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian about the serious situation in the region. I expressed deep concern over rising tensions, loss of civilian lives, and damage to civilian infrastructure. The safety and security of Indian citizens, along with the uninterrupted movement of goods and energy, remain top priorities for India.”
During the discussion, Modi reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability, appealing for dialogue and diplomacy.
Despite rising tensions in the Middle East, India continues to maintain cordial relations with all parties. This conversation took place at a time when Iran is in a precarious situation, with ongoing conflict with Israel.
On Thursday, Iran launched missile attacks on Israel. Missiles were fired towards Jerusalem, with one landing just meters away from significant sites such as the Old City, Western Wall, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, temporarily halting prayers.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed they intercepted missiles fired from Iran. They stated that their defense systems were actively attempting to neutralize these threats. The IDF issued advisories for residents to remain in safe locations.
In a post on the official social media platform ‘X’, the IDF shared, “The defense system is working to counter these threats. In recent minutes, the front command has issued initial instructions via mobile phones in the relevant areas. Citizens are urged to act responsibly and follow the given instructions. It is essential to enter safe locations upon receiving alerts and remain there until further instructions.”
