Anand, August 14: Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi inaugurated a new district jail in Bakrol, Anand on Friday. This facility has the capacity to house 370 inmates and is equipped with amenities aimed at both security and rehabilitation.
Constructed at a cost of approximately ₹67.52 crores, the jail spans 120,000 square meters, with a built-up area of 16,356.10 square meters. It can accommodate 330 male and 40 female prisoners.
Designed to provide opportunities for inmate reform and development, the jail includes vocational training, legal aid, a study center, and a library. Additional facilities feature indoor games, a cultural hall, a meditation hall, and an open-air theater.
Essential amenities within the complex include a hospital, canteen, laundry, barbershop, and welfare office. High-security barracks, women’s barracks, under-trial barracks, and watchtowers have been constructed to ensure safety.
A courtroom equipped for video conferencing and a separate barrack for the State Reserve Police have also been established. Modern facilities are provided in the administrative building and kitchen-dining hall for jail management and security.
Sanghvi also e-inaugurated newly constructed C-08 and B-16 category police quarters at the Nadiad District Jail in Kheda district. These quarters, built by the Gujarat State Police Housing Corporation Limited at a cost of ₹68.945 million, include amenities such as elevators and fire safety systems, aimed at providing housing for police personnel and their families.
Additionally, 50 residential quarters of categories B-36, C-12, and D-02 have been constructed for jail officials and staff at the Bakrol jail complex.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by ministers Raman Solanki, Kamlesh Patel, and Sanjaysinh Mahida, along with MPs, MLAs, senior dignitaries, and police officials. Following the event, Sanghvi and other officials inspected the new jail complex, which included the women’s yard and high-security cell.
