Vadodara, August 14: Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi honored the winners of the fourth Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament, which saw participation from 775 young players across the state. The closing ceremony took place at the Sama Sports Complex in Vadodara on Friday, where trophies, certificates, and cash prizes were awarded to the champions.
The four-day tournament, held from August 11 to 14, featured competitions in various categories including Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 for both boys and girls. A team of 30 technical support staff assisted the players throughout the event. This tournament has been organized for the fourth consecutive year, with dates set by the Table Tennis Association of Vadodara. The Deputy Chief Minister also presented the Sardar Patel Junior Award for the years 2007-08, 2016-17, and 2018-19, congratulating the recipients.
During the ceremony, an annual report booklet was released. Deputy Chief Minister Sanghvi played a set of table tennis with Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, engaging with players and boosting their morale. The closing ceremony was attended by MLA Chaitanya Desai, former MP Jaya Thakkar, Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu, officials from the Table Tennis Association of Vadodara and Gujarat State Table Tennis Association, sports department officials, senior athletes, players, and their parents.
While visiting Anand for the Tiranga Yatra, Sanghvi also inspected a new district sports complex built at a cost of ₹22.52 crores under the supervision of the Sports Authority of Gujarat. This complex features an indoor multipurpose hall, facilities for badminton, kho-kho, and kabaddi, as well as a modern synthetic tennis court, basketball court, and hockey ground.
Additional amenities include internal roads, paving blocks, parking, landscaping, irrigation network, stormwater drainage, external water supply, high-mast and street lighting, percolation well, borewell, compound wall, security cabin, main entrance, and external toilet blocks. Sanghvi interacted with young badminton players and played badminton with them before inspecting the facilities. He instructed officials to ensure that as many players as possible utilize the complex.
