
New Delhi, June 8: The police in Laxmi Nagar, East Delhi, have successfully solved a mobile theft case and arrested the suspect. The stolen mobile phone was recovered from the accused. This operation was based on technical investigation, CCTV analysis, and continuous surveillance.
The incident occurred on June 4, 2026, when a complaint was filed regarding the theft of a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone from a residence in the Laxmi Nagar area. An e-FIR was registered, and a case was filed under Section 305 of the Indian Penal Code. Taking the matter seriously, the police promptly initiated an investigation.
To investigate the case, the Laxmi Nagar police formed a special team. This team included Head Constables Raihs, Manoj, Wasim Akram, Ravikant, and Constable Devi. Under the leadership of the Laxmi Nagar SHO and the overall guidance of ACP Preet Vihar, the investigation progressed.
During the investigation, the police team meticulously reviewed footage from approximately 20 CCTV cameras in and around the crime scene. Alongside analyzing the footage, technical surveillance and local intelligence gathering were continuously pursued. Based on these efforts, a suspect was identified.
After extensive effort and ongoing surveillance, the police identified the suspect as Mohammad Istikhar, a 40-year-old resident of Kishan Kunj slum in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi. Following this identification, the police apprehended him and began questioning.
During the interrogation, the stolen mobile phone was recovered from the suspect. According to the police, significant information related to the theft emerged during questioning. Initial investigations also revealed that the suspect had previously been involved in another theft case, which is currently under investigation.
The police reported that the suspect is a painter and is illiterate. A thorough investigation into his criminal activities, potential accomplices, and involvement in other cases is underway.
DCP Rajiv Kumar (IPS) of East District stated that this success was made possible due to continuous monitoring, technical analysis, and effective use of CCTV footage. He emphasized that the police will continue to take strict action in such cases in the future.
