Mizoram Governor Joins Anti-Drug Pledge Campaign in Aizawl

Aizawl, August 10: The Governor of Mizoram, Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), participated in the ’10 Crore Drug-Free Pledge Mega Campaign’ organized by the Brahma Kumaris under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Mission Spandan’ initiatives on Monday in Aizawl.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Singh highlighted the serious issue of drug and substance addiction that affects everyone. He emphasized that creating and leading a drug-free society would bring about significant change.

Given the large youth population in India, he stressed the need to provide proper guidance to young people to prevent them from falling victim to addiction, thus laying the foundation for a healthy and productive future for the nation.

The Governor noted that Mizoram’s proximity to international borders has led to a higher prevalence of drug use in the state.

He further mentioned that Mizoram has one of the highest rates of cancer cases and is among the states with the most HIV cases, indicating an urgent need for increased efforts.

Singh expressed confidence that through awareness, determination, and collaboration, the state could effectively tackle issues related to substance abuse, cancer, and HIV. He urged students to remain steadfast in their commitment to stay away from drugs and to firmly say no to any temptations.

Reminding students of the hard work and high expectations of their parents and teachers, he stated, “We have great hopes for you because your future is bright. The future of your families, society, and state largely depends on you, so do not let them down.”

He encouraged students to understand the harms of substance abuse well enough to become important ambassadors for awareness among others. Additionally, he called on them to adopt an ideal lifestyle that could inspire more people.

The Governor also advised them to maintain physical and mental health through regular exercise and meditation to stay away from drugs.
