Mahasamund, August 10: The Mahasamund police achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting members of an inter-state gang armed with weapons before they could execute their plan.
On the night of August 9-10, 2026, four suspects were apprehended at the Palsapali barrier near the Busna police station. The team was conducting thorough vehicle inspections and patrols when they stopped a white Maruti Suzuki Victorious car that lacked a registration number. The vehicle was coming from Odisha and bore a temporary yellow TC plate with the number MP07/C0011/TC. The four occupants exhibited suspicious behavior.
During the search, police discovered a homemade .315 bore pistol and three live cartridges hidden in the dashboard and near the seats. Additionally, a bag inside the car contained ₹3.25 lakh in cash. Four mobile phones were also seized. The total estimated value of the recovered items, including the car, was approximately ₹19.25 lakh.
Interrogation revealed that the suspects had planned to purchase cannabis from Balangir, Odisha. They were carrying illegal weapons to defend themselves against potential police encounters and were prepared to use them. However, due to a lack of contact with their supplier, they were returning with cash when they were intercepted.
The arrested individuals were identified as Umashankar Sharma (41) from Devori village in the Mehgaon area of Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh; Akash Kakkar Sharma alias Golu (27) and Shivam Sharma (26), also from Bhind; and Shani Singh alias Sandeep (32) from Garikarna village in the Khairagarh area of Agra district, Uttar Pradesh.
The Busna police have filed a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2)(A) of the Indian Penal Code. The four suspects were formally arrested on August 10, 2026.
The timely action of the vigilant Busna police team has prevented a serious incident related to the smuggling of weapons and narcotics across state borders.
