Patna, August 11: In a swift operation, police in Muzaffarpur rescued a kidnapped youth within two hours and arrested two suspects who allegedly demanded a ransom of ₹50,000. An official reported this development on Monday.
The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Jajuaad outpost of the Katra police station. According to police, the young man left home on the evening of August 9 to go to the market. On his way, he was reportedly stopped by two individuals on a motorcycle and abducted.
Following the kidnapping, the suspects contacted the victim’s father, demanding a ransom of ₹50,000. Acting on the father’s complaint, police registered a case under number 208/26 at the Jajuaad outpost.
Given the seriousness of the situation, a special team was formed under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Police. This team operated under the supervision of the Rural Superintendent of Police, led by the East-1 Sub-Divisional Police Officer in collaboration with the Jajuaad outpost in charge.
Utilizing mobile surveillance, technical inputs, and human intelligence, the police tracked down the suspects and successfully rescued the youth within approximately two hours.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Manjay Kumar and Sunil Kumar, both residents of the Jajuaad outpost area. During the operation, police reportedly recovered a country-made pistol, four live cartridges, the victim’s mobile phone, and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Authorities revealed that Manjay Kumar has a criminal record, with multiple cases registered against him for robbery, dacoity, and violations of the Arms Act at various police stations in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Sitamarhi districts.
Police are interrogating both suspects to determine if anyone else was involved in the alleged kidnapping and ransom scheme.
In a separate operation, Patna police arrested four individuals on Monday in connection with a mobile snatching incident that occurred on Marine Drive on the evening of August 5.
According to police, these arrests were made during the investigation of several mobile snatching incidents in the Marine Drive area. Initially, three suspects—Aditya, Shiva, and Gopi—were apprehended, all hailing from the Ramkrishna Nagar police station area.
Based on information obtained during preliminary questioning, police later located and arrested their fourth alleged accomplice, Rahul Kumar, in the Kankarbagh area.
Authorities recovered seven mobile phones that were either stolen or snatched from the suspects. The motorcycle allegedly used in the Marine Drive incident was also seized.
Police are currently working to identify the rightful owners of the recovered mobile phones and return them. Rahul Thakur, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Alamganj police station, stated that the criminal records of all four arrested individuals are under review. Investigators are also looking into whether this gang was involved in other mobile snatching incidents in Patna.
Legal provisions have been initiated, and further investigations and legal actions are ongoing.
