Aizawl, August 24: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga announced on Monday that carbon trading, ginger processing, and tourism are key areas where the state government aims to strengthen collaboration with the BRICS Entrepreneurs Alliance (BEA).
Following a meeting on August 7 at Mizoram House in New Delhi between the Chief Minister and Jyoti Sonowal, the Global President and CEO of BEA, a team from BEA is currently visiting Mizoram.
During the meeting with the visiting team, the Chief Minister praised the BEA group for actively moving discussions forward and assured that proposals would be addressed as needed.
Several firms and companies associated with BEA presented opportunities for initiating activities in Mizoram.
In the tourism sector, the BEA team suggested that Mizoram should not directly compete with established destinations like Goa, Kerala, and Kashmir. Instead, it should focus on highlighting its unique natural and cultural features to develop itself as an ‘experience-based destination.’
The meeting also included presentations from an Israeli company regarding opportunities in micro-drip irrigation, climate-controlled greenhouses, drone-enabled logistics, and security solutions.
Discussions also covered ginger processing and market development, including opportunities to bring Mizoram’s processed ginger products to international markets. Given the large-scale production of ginger and its growing contribution, the NITI Aayog has already declared Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India.”
The Chief Minister previously stated that the state government is working to establish Mizoram’s high-quality ginger, with Geographical Indication (GI) tag status, as a premium agricultural product in national and international markets. Efforts are underway to enhance production, value addition, and market access for the state’s GI-tagged ginger, aiming to increase farmers’ income and strengthen Mizoram’s agricultural economy.
The meeting on Monday included ministers C. Lalzawivunga, Lalthanthanga, P.C. Vanlalruata, Rajya Sabha MP K. Laltlanguangma, Chief Minister’s advisor Lalmuansanga Punte, K.C. Lalmalasawma, and senior government officials.
