
Darwin, August 14: The first Test match of the two-match series between Australia and Bangladesh is underway at Marrara Cricket Ground. On the second day of the Test, Mitchell Starc struggled with his rhythm, managing to take just one wicket. However, he made headlines by breaking Kapil Dev’s record by dismissing Liton Das.
Starc has now surpassed Kapil Dev on the list of bowlers with the most wickets in Test cricket, with a total of 435 wickets. Kapil Dev, on the other hand, took 434 wickets in his Test career, placing him 11th on the all-time list of wicket-takers.
On the first day of the Test, Starc equaled Kapil Dev’s record by dismissing Shadman Islam. He has now become the left-arm bowler with the most wickets in Test cricket, surpassing Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath in this regard.
As the second day progressed, Bangladesh solidified their grip on the match, scoring 351 runs for the loss of six wickets in response to Australia’s 198. Australia’s fast bowlers appeared off their game. Tanjid Hasan Tamim played a remarkable innings for Bangladesh, scoring a century off 197 balls, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also showed great form with 84 runs.
Mominul Haque contributed 49 runs, and Mushfiqur Rahim added 36 runs off 55 balls. By the end of the day’s play, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was at the crease with 32 runs, while Hasan Mahmud, who took six wickets, scored 13 runs. For Australia, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood each took two wickets, while Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon claimed one wicket each.
