Lucknow, June 6: The political climate in Uttar Pradesh has intensified following the Ghazipur encounter. Dr. Sanjay Kumar Nishad, the National President of the Nishad Party and a cabinet minister, has raised serious questions regarding the impartiality of police actions. He stated that criminals have no caste, but the rule of law is equally essential.
Dr. Nishad expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Ghazipur police and demanded a fair investigation into the entire incident. He warned that targeting a specific community could have far-reaching political and social repercussions.
The cabinet minister emphasized that if Kamlesh Bind was involved in any crime, he should face legal action. However, he insisted on the necessity of an impartial inquiry into the questions surrounding the encounter.
Dr. Nishad pointed out that Kamlesh Bind was not the main accused in the Vineet Rai murder case. If the police justify the encounter, they must clarify what actions have been taken against the primary accused. He stressed that the law should be applied equally, without any double standards in enforcement.
He raised concerns about the circumstances of the encounter, stating that allegations made by the deceased’s wife should be taken seriously. If the family claims that the encounter followed police brutality during custody, a thorough and impartial investigation is essential to uncover the truth.
The Nishad Party president asserted that the Constitution and justice system grant every accused the right to surrender before a court. He alleged that there have been instances of arrests even within court premises, igniting debates about civil rights.
Dr. Nishad also questioned the police administration’s preparedness in light of protests and tensions following the encounter in Ghazipur. He argued that if local discontent was anticipated, intelligence and police should have been on high alert. He criticized the lack of adequate security during the transfer of the body as an administrative failure.
In response to warnings about the imposition of the National Security Act (NSA), Dr. Nishad stated that the law should be applied fairly. He questioned whether similar actions were taken in previous incidents of stone-pelting and violence against the police.
He warned that selective action against individuals from a specific community would send a message of discrimination. The cabinet minister noted that the Nishad and Bind communities are sensitive about their rights and dignity and will raise their voices against any injustice through democratic and legal means.
Dr. Nishad mentioned that he would bring the entire matter to the Chief Minister‘s attention and would not hesitate to approach the courts if necessary. He reflected on his past movements and legal battles, emphasizing the need for legality and transparency in police actions and encounters, as these directly impact the government’s image and public trust.
