Bareilly, August 29: A fire erupted in a five-story Navodaya Hospital in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, causing panic among patients and staff. Thick smoke quickly filled the building, prompting an immediate evacuation of all patients to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties from the incident.
Officials reported that the fire started around 10 AM in a room on the top floor during the outpatient department (OPD) hours, when the hospital was crowded. At the time of the fire, approximately 100 patients and their attendants were present in the ICU and other wards, raising concerns for their safety.
Fire alarms rang on every floor, creating a sense of urgency among patients, their families, and hospital staff. Police and fire brigade teams arrived promptly after receiving the alert, initiating rescue operations and firefighting efforts. Authorities confirmed that the fire was brought under control within about 30 minutes.
As a precaution, the hospital administration arranged for ambulances to transport all patients to nearby facilities.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit in the MCV box, which led to smoke spreading throughout different sections of the building. However, officials stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and how it ignited on the top floor.
It is noteworthy that just days earlier, a fire in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a district women’s hospital in Amravati, Maharashtra, resulted in the tragic deaths of three newborns, with six others still receiving treatment at a local super-specialty hospital.
