Mehbooba Mufti to Attend Funeral of Irans Supreme Leader Khamenei

Srinagar, July 2: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), will travel to Iran to participate in the funeral of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. She plans to pay her final respects and express condolences to the Iranian people.

According to a press release from the party, Mehbooba Mufti received a formal invitation from the International Relations Department of the Supreme Leader’s office in Iran. The invitation stated that national mourning was declared in Iran following Khamenei’s death on February 28, 2026, and a state funeral will be held with full honors.

The invitation urged Mehbooba Mufti to attend the ceremony as a distinguished political figure from India. It emphasized that her presence would symbolize the historical friendship, mutual respect, and deep connections between the two ancient civilizations of India and Iran.

The memorial service is scheduled for July 3 at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla complex in Tehran. A commemorative gathering will take place on July 4 at the Summit Conference Hall, followed by the funeral procession on July 6, 2026, in Tehran.

The PDP’s statement noted that during her visit, Mehbooba Mufti will pay tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and convey her heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people.

It is important to mention that the Supreme Leader died due to an American-Israeli attack, and his body has been preserved for burial. Invitations have been sent to various world leaders to attend the final farewell.
