Lucknow, May 18: Mayawati, the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has issued a strong statement regarding the secular identity of India, the sanctity of the Constitution, and the post-election violence in West Bengal. She emphasized that India’s global identity is rooted in the Constitution crafted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and its secular values. It is the duty of all governments to avoid any form of religious, ethnic, or political discrimination and to ensure the protection of life, property, and religious freedom for all citizens.
In a post on the social media platform X, Mayawati highlighted that India is known worldwide for its unique humanitarian identity, particularly due to the remarkable Constitution established by Dr. Ambedkar, which is fundamentally based on the principles of secularism. This means granting equal respect to individuals of all faiths residing in the country.
She stated that the nation’s ethos is largely based on these high human values, ensuring the freedom and security of all religious communities. Following the prescribed paths is not only the responsibility of the governments but also of every citizen.
Moreover, she pointed out that this protective framework enables India to effectively counter anti-India propaganda abroad. It is the obligation of both the central and state governments to refrain from actions that could lead to unpleasant questions regarding the country and, specifically, the Indian government.
Mayawati also addressed the ongoing discussions about the violence in West Bengal following the elections. She urged the governments to be vigilant and take strict action against chaos, especially in light of directives from the High Court. It is crucial to avoid any blame of narrow politics, religious discrimination, or ethnic bias on any government, which should be a matter of serious concern.
Additionally, she stressed that in the interest of public welfare and safety, compliance with established laws is essential. If new laws are to be enacted, they should apply equally to all religious communities. It is vital to maintain the dignity of the Constitution and laws, ensuring they are enforced without religious or ethnic bias, so that governments appear to be working for the benefit of all communities.
Mayawati concluded by stating that the current social, economic, and political conditions in the country are fraught with challenges. All governments should focus their attention on these pressing issues rather than attempting to divert public attention through destructive imagery. Such actions will not resolve national problems but will exacerbate the crisis, which is not in the interest of the nation or its people. This is her appeal.
