Lucknow, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Mayawati, the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has voiced her deep concern regarding a series of recent tragedies, including a building collapse in South Delhi, a toxic liquor incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, and devastating floods affecting several states, including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
She described these incidents as profoundly tragic and alarming, questioning the effectiveness of government operations. On social media platform X, Mayawati stated that such events raise serious doubts about the authorities’ ability to fulfill their responsibilities. She urged governments to be more proactive in addressing public welfare issues and to take stringent measures against negligence, apathy, and corruption among officials.
The former Chief Minister highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that the collapse of a five-story PG hostel in South Delhi resulted in five fatalities. Additionally, the toxic liquor incident in Sagar district claimed 18 lives, with around 190 others hospitalized for treatment. Reports of destruction due to floods in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states further underscored the urgency of the matter.
Mayawati emphasized that these events illustrate a failure in governance, necessitating a more vigilant approach from the authorities regarding public interest and welfare. She reiterated the need for the government to clamp down on the growing negligence, indifference, and corruption among officials.
In a related incident, rescue operations were ongoing late into the night following the sudden collapse of the five-story PG building in the Satya Niketan area of Delhi. Teams from the police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Delhi Fire Service, and the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) were deployed to the scene promptly. Fire trucks and emergency ambulances were also stationed to assist in the rescue efforts, which were overseen by senior police officials.
