Lucknow, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Maulana Yasub Abbas spoke to reporters in Lucknow on Saturday, expressing his views on several pressing issues, including the recent demolition of an 18th-century mosque in Saharanpur. He described the demolition as unfortunate, noting that it occurred despite an existing stay order. The District Magistrate of Saharanpur had dismissed this stay just before the demolition took place.
Abbas emphasized that places of worship, be they temples, mosques, gurdwaras, or churches, serve as sanctuaries for peace. He pointed out that the mosque had been standing for a long time without any complaints until now. He recalled that after the Babri Masjid demolition, it was agreed that no mosques would be destroyed, a provision established under the Worship Act. Despite this, he lamented that mosques across the country continue to be demolished, which he deems entirely wrong. He underscored the importance of maintaining a diverse array of religious sites in India, as guaranteed by the Constitution.
The Maulana announced plans to escalate the matter to court, indicating that if necessary, efforts would be made to rebuild the mosque at its original location. He suggested that such actions appear to target a specific community, with numerous incidents coming to light that have caused unrest. He urged both state and central governments to take responsibility for ensuring the protection of religious sites.
Additionally, Abbas responded to remarks made by Aniruddhacharya, who claimed that Hindus have never been anti-Muslim, but Muslims have been anti-Hindu. Abbas firmly rejected this assertion, stating it is entirely incorrect. He declared that Hindus and Muslims are like the two eyes of India, coexisting peacefully for many years without animosity.
