Imphal, April 3: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday, directing officials to take strict action against troublemakers and anti-social elements. He emphasized the need to ensure safe corridors and smooth movement throughout the state.
According to an official from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the meeting, held at the Civil Secretariat, reviewed the current law and order situation in the state and discussed strategies to enhance security along national highways.
In a post on his official X account, the Chief Minister stated, “The safety of the people and the uninterrupted movement of goods is our top priority.” He added, “Clear instructions have been given to take strict action against all troublemakers and non-cooperative elements to ensure safe corridors and smooth traffic in the state. We are committed to maintaining peace, stability, and public trust.”
Essential supplies, including food, medicines, and construction materials, primarily flow through two national highways: Imphal-Jiribam (NH-37) and Imphal-Dimapur (NH-2).
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhawan in Imphal after returning from New Delhi. During his visit to the capital, he discussed various state issues with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Chief Minister also held a meeting with senior military officials led by Major General Shubhankar Basu, General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division.
He reported that detailed discussions took place regarding the preparations for the 2026 Durand Cup in Imphal. Topics included institutional coordination, logistical arrangements, and strategies to ensure a successful event.
“The Durand Cup is Asia’s oldest football tournament, featuring teams from the Indian Super League, I-League, and the armed forces,” he noted.
The Chief Minister expressed optimism about a large audience attending the event. He stated, “The state government is fully committed to a safe, organized, and world-class event, which will further strengthen Manipur’s identity as a football hub.”
It is noteworthy that the 134th edition of the Durand Cup was held in Manipur in July 2025 after a two-year hiatus due to ethnic violence. Following prolonged ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, President’s Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, which was lifted earlier this year.
