Imphal, March 2: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced on Sunday that the state government will take all necessary steps to address the shortage of teachers in schools.
While addressing an event at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School in Imphal East district, the Chief Minister highlighted that the significant lack of teachers is adversely affecting school operations. He assured that measures would be implemented not only at this school but also at other educational institutions facing similar issues.
During the event, the Chief Minister inaugurated three major projects, including the Itham Moirangpurel Bridge under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), a model residential school under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Yojana, and a new science and arts building at Moirangpurel Higher Secondary School under the Samagra Shiksha Manipur initiative.
Additionally, he flagged off the upgrade work on a section of National Highway-2 (Imphal–Dimapur) from Lamlai to Thoubal Dam.
In response to reports of alleged involvement of security personnel in illegal activities along the national highway in the Moirangpurel area, the Chief Minister took the matter seriously. He directed Imphal East Superintendent of Police Shivanand Surve to conduct a thorough investigation.
Furthermore, he instructed Imphal East Deputy Commissioner Nivedita Lairenlakpam to report on the lack of Direct Benefit Transfer assistance for purchasing mattresses for internally displaced persons affected by ethnic violence in Laikhong village. The Deputy Commissioner assured a prompt resolution in coordination with the Home Department.
The construction of the science and arts building was completed at a cost of over ₹3.78 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Manipur initiative. It includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, separate toilets for boys and girls, and a rainwater harvesting system.
The model residential school was built with assistance from the Ministry of Minority Affairs at an approximate cost of ₹25.62 crore.
The Itham Moirangpurel Bridge was constructed at an approved cost of around ₹6.45 crore over the Thoubal River in the Kerao Bitra block of Imphal East district.
