Kolkata, May 15: Following the recent defeat of the Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, party supremo and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a clear message on Friday. She stated that any party members unwilling to stay during this challenging time are free to leave immediately.
A party leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, revealed that a review meeting was held on Monday to discuss the reasons for the electoral loss. During this meeting, Banerjee emphasized that leaders and workers contemplating leaving the Trinamool Congress are welcome to do so, and she would not make any effort to stop them. She also mentioned that those who choose to remain during this crisis will be invaluable assets, and she aims to rebuild the Trinamool Congress with their support.
The leader further noted that Banerjee requested a report from party leadership regarding the resumption of area-based outreach programs within the next seven days. Additionally, she instructed party leaders to initiate meetings at the block, municipal, and regional levels wherever possible, given the changed political landscape of the state.
Banerjee also asked district leaders to provide her with a list of individuals allegedly displaced after the elections, to be submitted directly to her residence-office in Kalighat, South Kolkata.
Furthermore, she assigned the task of overseeing legal assistance for those reportedly displaced due to post-election violence to Chandrima Bhattacharya, the former state minister of finance and a lawyer herself.
The party leader added that Banerjee made it clear that she would have the final say on organizational matters within the Trinamool Congress. She advised party leaders to address any grievances internally rather than making public statements or speaking to the media.
