Mamata Banerjee Accuses Election Commission of Aiding BJP in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 24: Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has once again claimed that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) did not lose the West Bengal Assembly elections. Speaking three weeks after the election results, she alleged that the Election Commission assisted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in securing victory in the state. Banerjee also asserted that she was ‘forcibly’ defeated in the Bhawanipur Assembly constituency.

On the day the results of the Falta Assembly by-election were announced, the TMC leader targeted Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, questioning, “How did you win in Bhawanipur? I will take you to court. If you have the courage, bring the forensic report. We need the EVM report.”

Banerjee accused the BJP of instilling terror against TMC leaders and workers since coming to power. She claimed that police have been arresting TMC leaders and councilors, and that nearly 2,000 TMC offices have been vandalized.

In her words, “If the president (Suvendu Adhikari) says he will send 2,500 people to jail, a separate jail has been made for TMC workers… I think they should go to jail first. Their names are involved in every scam from Saradha to Narada. Those who are giving orders today are violating the rules.”

She further noted that the counting took place on May 4, and today is the 24th. “I have endured these 20 days quietly. Not just me, but the people of Bengal and TMC workers are also suffering. Many have fallen victim to state-sponsored terrorism. Nearly 12 people have died. People are being forced to commit suicide. Everyone is being coerced into resigning. Elected bodies are being obstructed from functioning. Major civic bodies like the Kolkata Municipal Corporation are facing hindrances in development projects, including water supply, roads, and other services.”

Criticizing Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Banerjee stated, “I have also run an administration. We never asked uniformed personnel (police) to do such things. We came to power in 2011 and played Rabindra Sangeet everywhere. Today, we are not allowed to hold meetings. Our elected councilors are being arrested daily. Goons are occupying municipal offices. More than 2,500 party offices have been taken over by goons in front of the police. When we approach the police to complain, they say they have orders.”
