Bombay High Court Sets Deadline for Sahiya Film Certification Decision

The Bombay High Court has ordered the film Sahiya certification decision by October 27, with the next hearing on November 2.

Mumbai, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : The Bombay High Court has directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to make a final decision on the film “Sahiya” by October 27. This ruling came during a hearing on a petition filed by the film’s producer and director, Sanjay Sharma. The next court session is scheduled for November 2.

Sanjay Sharma was represented by senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who participated via video conferencing. Alongside him were advocates SM Haider, Abdul Talha, Mohammad Shah, and Surbhi. During the proceedings, they raised concerns about the ongoing delays in the film’s certification. Sharma’s team argued that despite submitting their application in May, the film has yet to receive its certification, hindering its release.

The CBFC’s lawyer informed the court that a revising committee would be formed by October 23 to address the certification. However, Sharma’s legal team questioned the adequacy of merely establishing a committee without specifying when the film would be reviewed or when a decision would be reached.

Sharma’s representatives explained that they applied for certification on May 30, 2026. The film underwent screening and review processes, with the first screening occurring in July and a subsequent review in August. On August 27, the film was denied certification.

The court instructed the CBFC to adhere to the specified timeline, mandating that a final order on the film’s certification be issued by October 27.

Following the denial of certification, Sharma approached the Bombay High Court. Concerns had been raised during the certification process regarding the portrayal of violence and anti-social elements in the film. However, the producer contends that the film should be appreciated for its complete narrative and emotional depth.

Sanjay Sharma asserts that “Sahiya” does not promote violence but rather tells a story of love and human emotions. The film aims to depict how the lives and relationships of ordinary people are affected by violence and fear. It is fundamentally a love story that does not glorify violence.

Set against the backdrop of Jharkhand, “Sahiya” revolves around a newlywed couple whose lives become entangled in violence, fear, and suspicion. The film explores how such circumstances impact the relationships, dreams, and daily lives of ordinary individuals.

Filming took place in Netarhat, Jharkhand, and its surrounding forests and natural landscapes. The cast includes Neeraj Kabi, Shantanu Maheshwari, Rinku Rajguru, and Ishtiyaq Khan. Sharma emphasized the importance of the court’s directive, expressing hope that the CBFC would make a fair decision considering the film’s narrative and human aspects. He noted the hard work of the artists and technicians involved and hopes their efforts will reach the audience.

All eyes are now on the CBFC’s decision, which is due by October 27, with the next hearing set for November 2 at the Bombay High Court.
