Bengal CM Credits BSF and Police for Curbing Cross-Border Crimes
West Bengals CM highlights the role of BSF and police in reducing cross-border crimes and urges community support against child marriage.

Kolkata, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari praised the collaboration between the Border Security Force (BSF) and state police for effectively curbing cross-border crimes. Speaking on October 15 in Lalbagh, Murshidabad, he noted that this cooperation has significantly reduced illegal activities linked to the Bangladesh border.
Adhikari highlighted the ongoing installation of barbed wire fencing along the border. He also urged the community to avoid child marriages, referencing the high rates of early pregnancies in Murshidabad. He reassured residents that financial constraints would not hinder the district’s development and tourism potential.
During the inauguration of a community Durga Puja event, Adhikari addressed the area’s challenges, stating, “Previously, this region faced rampant issues like illegal infiltration, cattle smuggling, and drug trafficking. Now, with the BSF and state police working together, such crimes have been largely contained.”
He urged the public to refrain from marrying off daughters or sisters at a young age, reminding them that child marriage is a punishable offense under the law.
Without naming anyone, the Chief Minister warned that some selfish individuals might attempt to disrupt the festive atmosphere during Durga Puja. He called on both police and event organizers to remain vigilant, especially after recent incidents at two local puja pandals.
Adhikari emphasized the need for comprehensive development to attract tourists and improve the district’s future, stating, “Murshidabad has immense tourism potential. Comprehensive development is essential, and I assure you that a lack of funds will not be an obstacle.”
