Trump Claims TSMC Investment Will Position U.S. to Produce Half of the World’s Semiconductors
Trump asserts TSMCs $265 billion investment in Arizona will enable the U.S. to dominate semiconductor production.
Bullhead City, October 15 (Daily Kiran) : Former President Donald Trump recently stated that the $265 billion investment from Taiwan’s semiconductor manufacturer TSMC in Arizona will allow the United States to produce nearly half of the world’s semiconductors. Speaking at a rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, Trump took credit for bringing TSMC to the U.S., claiming, “I am the person who brought TSMC here. This is a $265 billion investment, and the largest semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the world are going to be built here.”
He expressed confidence that the U.S. would manufacture 50 percent of the world’s chips, a significant increase from the current zero percent. Trump noted that the construction of this project has already created jobs for over 6,000 people. He also mentioned that GlobalFoundries, an American chip manufacturer, is planning to expand its operations.
In addition, Trump highlighted a $21 billion investment by GlobalFoundries to build two new semiconductor factories in upstate New York. He referenced a deal with Intel that reportedly generated $72 billion in profit, although he did not provide details on how those figures were calculated.
Trump also touched on the pharmaceutical sector, claiming that several major American drug companies are relocating their production back to the U.S. Companies like Eli Lilly have announced plans to establish multiple medical plants, while Merck and Pfizer are also bringing operations home. “Our entire pharmaceutical industry is coming back to America,” he asserted, noting that production has previously been based in Ireland, China, and the UK.
He claimed that his administration’s drug pricing policy has led to significant price reductions, stating that drug prices, once the highest in the world, are now among the lowest. However, he did not provide supporting data for these assertions.
Trump concluded by mentioning a broader promise of $21.2 trillion in investments across various sectors, including a 50 percent tariff on copper and the Resolution Copper project in Arizona, which he said would create 3,700 jobs.
