Major Food Fraud Uncovered in Dwarka: Three Arrested for Selling Expired Goods

New Delhi, April 3: The Crime Branch has uncovered a significant organized racket in Dwarka, leading to the arrest of three individuals. This group was involved in repackaging expired and tampered food items for sale in the market. Authorities seized a large quantity of products from well-known brands, which bore fake manufacturing and expiration dates.

On March 29, police received a tip-off about illegal food repackaging activities taking place in a warehouse in the Bamnol village of Dwarka. Following this information, a special team was formed and conducted a raid at the location.

During the operation, police discovered a substantial amount of cold drinks and other food items. Investigations revealed that these products were either expired or nearing their expiration dates. Two individuals present at the site were apprehended, identified as Shivam Singh and Lokesh Kumar. During questioning, they revealed they were acting under the direction of Kamal Mudgil, the main operator of the network. Shortly after, Mudgil arrived at the scene and was promptly arrested by the police.

According to police, the accused would purchase expired or soon-to-expire products at low prices from the market. They then erased the original manufacturing and expiration dates using chemicals. New fake dates were printed using specialized machines, and the items were repackaged into new cartons for sale at inflated prices. This operation not only deceived consumers but also posed serious health risks.

During the raid, authorities seized a large quantity of food products, including cold drinks and biscuits. Additionally, they recovered the printing machine and chemicals used in this illegal operation. The food safety department was called to the scene and began collecting samples for further investigation.

A case has been registered under relevant sections, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are now working to determine the extent of this racket and identify any additional individuals involved.

Officials stated that this operation has successfully prevented a significant amount of unsafe food products from reaching the market. This action is considered crucial for consumer safety and is expected to instill fear among those engaged in such illegal businesses.
