Major Drug Bust in Mizoram: Assam Rifles Seize Heroin Worth ₹1.34 Crore, Three Arrested

Aizawl, June 25: The Assam Rifles, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, has seized heroin valued at over ₹1.34 crore in Mizoram. Three alleged drug traffickers were arrested during separate operations.

A defense spokesperson reported that based on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles personnel conducted a targeted operation in the Jote area of Champhai district alongside Mizoram police.

During the operation, the joint team intercepted two suspicious individuals. A search revealed 141.42 grams of heroin, estimated to be worth approximately ₹1.06 crore in the international market. This substance is known for its highly addictive properties.

The seized narcotics and the two suspects were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for further investigation and legal action.

In another operation, the Assam Rifles and the Excise Department launched a joint mission in the Bawngkawn area of Aizawl district after receiving information about drug trafficking.

During this operation, one individual was apprehended, with approximately 38 grams of heroin found in three containers, valued at around ₹28.5 lakh. The arrested person was identified as Lalvunga, 41, a resident of Mualkawi in Champhai district. He was caught attempting to deliver the narcotic.

The seized heroin and the suspect were also handed over to the relevant department for further investigation.

Officials stated that these successful operations reflect the strong coordination and commitment between the Assam Rifles and other agencies, which are continuously working to combat drug trafficking in the region.

According to authorities, Myanmar’s Chin state has long been a major route for smuggling drugs, wildlife, and other illegal goods into India, particularly through the bordering districts of Mizoram.

This area shares a 510-kilometer open and hilly international border, making it vulnerable to smuggling activities.

Security agencies have indicated that efforts to curb drug trafficking will continue through ongoing intelligence-based operations and inter-agency coordination.
