Patna, July 21: The first ‘Sindoor Park’ in India has been inaugurated at the Danapur Army Cantonment in Bihar. This initiative involves the planting of 350 sindoor (Bixa orellana) plants within the military premises. The park symbolizes the valor of the Indian Army, patriotism, environmental conservation, and the commitment to a self-reliant India.
On this occasion, Governor and Chancellor Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, Dr. D.R. Singh, and General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Jharkhand and Bihar Sub Area (Danapur), Major General Jitendra Singh, jointly planted the sindoor plants.
The Governor stated that this Sindoor Park will serve as a living symbol of trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility between the Indian Army and civil society. He emphasized that this initiative will convey to future generations that both national security and environmental protection are vital foundations for nation-building.
He praised the efforts of Bihar Agricultural University in the conservation, research, and commercialization of natural sindoor. He noted that this would provide new direction for self-reliant India, environmental protection, and rural livelihoods.
Dr. D.R. Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Agricultural University, remarked that this is the first Army cantonment in the country to establish a Sindoor Park. He explained that the red color of sindoor is not just a natural hue but a symbol of dedication to the motherland, integrity, commitment, courage, and ultimate sacrifice. This park will keep alive the spirit with which Indian soldiers defend the nation.
The Vice-Chancellor also shared that the university is continuously working on the conservation, scientific production, value addition, and commercialization of natural sindoor through rural women. He expressed confidence that the Sindoor Park established at Danapur Army Cantonment will inspire military establishments and other institutions across the country.
He linked this initiative to the spirit of the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor,’ stating that just as this campaign symbolizes national security and courage, the Sindoor Park will deliver a lasting message of patriotism, environmental conservation, and dedication to the motherland.
The event was attended by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Director of Administration at Bihar Agricultural University, Dr. A.K. Singh, Director of Research, Dr. Shivnath Das, Director of ARI Patna, senior military officials, university scientists, and other dignitaries.
Speakers at the program described this initiative not merely as a tree-planting campaign but as a powerful message of shared responsibility towards the nation, nature, and society.
