Aizawl, August 14: A significant crackdown on drug trafficking has taken place in Mizoram. In a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, approximately 868 grams of heroin valued at ₹6.51 crore was seized in the Keifang area of Saitual district. Two traffickers have been arrested in connection with this case.
Based on intelligence reports, the joint team intercepted a truck in the Keifang region on Wednesday morning. Upon suspicion, the personnel conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, uncovering a modified and sealed toolbox inside.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the toolbox contained a hidden compartment. Upon opening it, officials found 73 boxes of soap. A closer inspection of these boxes revealed they were filled with a total of 868 grams of heroin.
Authorities stated that this method of concealing drugs was particularly cunning. It would not typically be detected during standard checks, but precise intelligence and meticulous searching led to the successful seizure. The estimated international market value of the recovered heroin is around ₹6.51 crore.
During the operation, two individuals aboard the truck were apprehended. After initial questioning, they were handed over to Saitual police for further legal action. The police are now investigating the origin of this shipment and its intended delivery location.
The Saitual police have registered a case under the NDPS Act. They indicated that further inquiries would be made to identify other individuals linked to this drug network.
This seizure is considered a significant blow to the drug trafficking network operating through Mizoram, especially since traffickers had made specific modifications to the vehicle to conceal the illegal goods.
