
Mumbai, March 8: In a significant operation, police in Gopalganj district, Bihar, have taken decisive action against illegal opium cultivation. A joint team of police and administration raided Raghu Nath Pur village, destroying opium crops valued at millions of rupees. During the operation, a young man was arrested, and a thorough investigation has been initiated.
Authorities received a tip-off about clandestine opium farming in Raghu Nath Pur. Acting on this information, Gopalganj SP Vinay Tiwari directed the formation of a joint team led by Hathua SDM Abhishek Kumar Chandan and Hathua SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta. The team, comprising police, administrative officials, and relevant authorities, arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation.
The investigation revealed that opium plants were cultivated on approximately four dhurs of land, nearing maturity, with an estimated market value in the millions. The team promptly destroyed the entire crop on-site.
During the operation, one individual, Rajan Kumar, was apprehended and is being held as a juvenile offender. Police are interrogating him to determine if others are involved in this illegal farming operation.
Hathua SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta stated that the police are taking this matter seriously. Efforts are ongoing to reach the masterminds behind the opium cultivation and other suspects. He emphasized that illegal drug trade and cultivation will not be tolerated in the district, and such actions will continue.
According to reports, this incident has caused a stir in the area. Local residents are pleased with the police’s strict action, as it strengthens the campaign against drug abuse. Gopalganj police have sent a clear message that they are closely monitoring lawbreakers and will completely eradicate such activities.
