Chandigarh, March 28: Punjab Police is actively combating cross-border drug and arms smuggling. In a recent operation, the Counter Intelligence team in Amritsar dismantled a gang involved in illegal arms trafficking. Two suspects were arrested, and authorities seized ten foreign-made advanced pistols along with magazines. This information was shared by Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) on social media.
According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, initial investigations indicate that the suspects were operating under the direction of a foreign gangster. They coordinated with smugglers based in Pakistan to bring illegal arms into India. The seized weapons were intended for distribution among criminal elements across Punjab. An FIR has been registered at the Amritsar Police Station under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the BNSS Act. Further investigations are underway to uncover connections and dismantle the entire smuggling network.
The DGP emphasized Punjab Police’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against illegal arms trafficking, organized crime, and anti-national activities to ensure the safety and security of Punjab.
Earlier, on Thursday, an intelligence team in Jalandhar achieved a significant breakthrough by busting an interstate illegal weapon supply module. During this operation, two suspects from Uttar Pradesh were arrested, with ten country-made pistols (7.65 mm) and twenty magazines recovered.
Previously, two members of a banned outfit were arrested for allegedly purchasing and planting three grenades and an IED under the instructions of their foreign handler near Balachaur. These IEDs were later used in an explosion at the Nalagarh police station in Himachal Pradesh. The suspects were also involved in purchasing weapons for extortion at the residence of a travel agent in Garhshankar, following directives from foreign brokers.
