Lucknow, May 8: In a significant move against negligence and corruption in the health department, Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak announced the dismissal of five medical officers on Friday. These officials faced allegations of prolonged absence from duty, administrative negligence, irregularities in the registration of private hospitals, and inadequate patient care. Additionally, a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and 16 other medical officers are under departmental disciplinary action.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that any compromise on patient safety and government responsibilities will not be tolerated. The dismissed officials include Dr. Alaknanda from Gorakhpur District Hospital, Dr. Ramji Bhardwaj from Kushinagar, Dr. Saurabh Singh from Balrampur, Dr. Viklesh Kumar Sharma from Amethi’s CHC Jagdishpur, and Dr. Monica Verma from Auraiya’s CHC Dibiyapur. All were accused of being absent from duty without notice and neglecting their medical responsibilities.
The most significant impact of the health department’s actions was observed in Ambedkarnagar, where CMO Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shaiwal and Deputy CMO Dr. Sanjay Verma were found guilty of irregularities in the registration and renewal of private hospitals, nursing homes, and ultrasound centers, as well as ignoring government orders and misusing their positions. A three-member committee at the ADM level investigated the complaints, leading to disciplinary action against both officials.
In Hardoi’s Sandila, Medical Superintendent Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh faced accusations of failing to act against illegally operated private hospitals and neglecting his duties. A departmental inquiry has been initiated in this case. The CMO of Hardoi has also been asked to explain why a junior medical officer was assigned senior responsibilities despite the presence of senior doctors.
Dr. Shameem Akhtar, the superintendent of Meja CHC in Prayagraj, is under departmental action and transfer orders due to administrative negligence and inability to control subordinates. In Sultanpur’s Lambhua CHC, action has been directed against former superintendent Dr. Anil Kumar Singh, medical officer Dr. Dharmraj, and pharmacist Awadh Narayan for negligence in treating a female patient.
Disciplinary action has also been ordered against Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Devendra Kumar and surgeon Dr. Vikas Mishra for alleged irregularities in medical testing at Mathura District Hospital. Furthermore, investigations and disciplinary actions are underway against medical officers in several districts, including Balrampur, Varanasi, Badaun, Kheri, and Sambhal, for negligence and administrative irregularities.
Dr. Rituj Agarwal, a co-professor in the Orthopedics Department at Badaun Government Medical College, will face action for misconduct and abusive behavior towards female medical officers and other doctors. The health department has issued censure penalties to Dr. Pratibha Yadav from Bahraich and Dr. Rakesh Singh from Mathura. Additionally, Dr. Aditya Pandey, assigned to the state health agency’s cashless medical scheme, has been ordered to return to his original posting in Raebareli.
Several medical officers have also had their salary increments halted. Dr. Lalmani, a gynecologist from Hamirpur, has had three increments permanently stopped due to allegations of extorting money from patients and misconduct. Dr. Santosh Singh from Balrampur and Dr. Nisha Bundela from Jhansi have had four and two increments, respectively, suspended.
Dr. Pawan Sahu, an orthopedic surgeon at the Trauma Center in Jhansi, has had two increments stopped and a censure penalty issued for engaging in private practice. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated that the government is committed to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to ensure transparency and accountability in health services, asserting that those compromising patient interests will not be spared.
