Hyderabad, July 22: Protests erupted in Hyderabad on Wednesday as BJP and Congress workers clashed over the NEET paper leak controversy. Both parties were demonstrating against each other in response to events that unfolded in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The confrontation was sparked by a protest led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other leaders from the Congress and Samajwadi Party. They were voicing their opposition to police action against students protesting the NEET paper leak near the Prime Minister’s residence. This issue brought the two parties face-to-face.
BJP leaders accused Rahul Gandhi of breaching security protocols while attempting to organize a rally. In retaliation, Congress staged a protest in front of the BJP office against the detention of Gandhi and other leaders.
As tensions escalated, activists from both parties began attacking each other with sticks and stones. Several activists and a female police officer sustained injuries during the clashes.
The atmosphere around the Telangana BJP headquarters and the nearby Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, became increasingly charged. A large number of BJP workers gathered at their office, marching towards Gandhi Bhavan while damaging Congress banners.
Police detained several leaders, including Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao, and took them to the Goshamahal police station.
Later, Congress and NSUI activists marched towards the BJP office. Led by Congress Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Balamori Venkata, they attempted to encircle the BJP office.
Protesters chanted slogans against the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Education.
In response, a significant number of BJP workers arrived at the scene, leading to a renewed clash between the two sides. As the situation deteriorated, police intervened and began detaining protesters. Despite this, activists continued to attack each other with sticks and stones.
The protests, counter-protests, and clashes caused severe traffic jams in the busy areas of Nampally, Mozzam Jahi Market, and surrounding regions.
Meanwhile, Congress workers attempted to protest outside the office of Union Minister of State for Home B. Sanjay. Clashes also occurred between BJP and Congress workers in Karimnagar, where BJP supporters alleged that Congress activists attacked them with sticks, prompting a retaliatory response.
Tensions remain high as both parties continue to engage in confrontational demonstrations.
