Bhopal, April 25: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Friday that the Madhya Pradesh government is making rapid efforts to expand the dairy sector. He emphasized that this initiative is crucial for increasing farmers’ income and strengthening the rural economy.
While chairing a review meeting of the Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation, Yadav stated that dairy activities are being promoted under the ‘Farmer Welfare Year’ to create sustainable employment opportunities for farmers.
He remarked, “Dairy development is emerging as an effective means to boost farmers’ income, and the government is working to extend this through cooperative structures to every village.”
Highlighting the importance of institutional cooperation, Yadav noted that collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board has improved milk procurement and the prices received by farmers. The experiences of the National Dairy Development Board should be utilized from the state level down to village dairy committees to ensure uniformity and efficiency in operations.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to implement a timely action plan for expanding dairy cooperatives, establishing new processing and production units, modernizing animal feed plants, and digitizing the dairy value chain.
He also stressed the need to enhance branding and adopt modern packaging to increase market access for milk and dairy products.
Yadav stated, “Proper utilization of the National Dairy Development Board’s experiences, combined with better branding and packaging, will help expand the reach of dairy products.” He added that farmers and youth should be encouraged to adopt modern dairy technologies and innovations.
According to officials, the state’s goal is to connect 26,000 villages with dairy activities and increase daily milk procurement to 5.2 million kilograms. In the 2025-26 fiscal year, 1,752 new dairy cooperatives were established, while 701 inactive cooperatives were revived.
The meeting revealed that the state currently procures approximately 967,000 kilograms of milk daily, managed through 153 bulk milk coolers.
To enhance transparency and efficiency, the government has launched a mobile-based milk procurement system, allowing farmers to view real-time information on milk quantity, quality, and pricing. Additionally, a field force monitoring app has been introduced to strengthen oversight.
Efforts are also underway to improve milk quality and processing capacity. Projects are ongoing to establish a milk powder plant in Indore and upgrade dairy units in Shivpuri and Gwalior, aiming to create a modern and robust dairy system in the state.
