Madhya Pradesh Files Special Leave Petition on OBC Reservation Amid Political Tensions

Madhya Pradeshs Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announces a special leave petition on OBC reservation, addressing political tensions in the state.

Bhopal, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Madhya Pradesh government has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court regarding the reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC), which stands at 27 percent. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav emphasized the government’s clear policy and intent to support OBC reservations during a meeting with representatives from the OBC Mahasabha at his official residence.

Yadav stated that the issue of OBC reservations is of utmost importance to the state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the interests of OBCs, ensuring that all efforts are made for a just and logical system. To strengthen their position, a multi-party meeting was convened to discuss OBC reservations, and dialogues with various OBC organizations were held.

The Chief Minister clarified that the state government is not evading the issue but is actively seeking a proper resolution. He instructed that a detailed study of the High Court’s ruling on OBC reservations be conducted, so the state can present a strong case before the Supreme Court. The Madhya Pradesh Advocate General’s office has already filed the SLP, titled State of MP vs. Ashita Dubey and others.

Representatives from the OBC Mahasabha submitted a memorandum to Yadav, urging constitutional solutions based on updated data regarding the High Court’s decision on October 9. They were led by Advocate Vaibhav Singh and Engineer Mahendra Singh Lodhi from the Delhi chapter, along with Vijay Kumar, Jitu Lodhi, and Giriraj Dhakad from the Gwalior chapter.

This issue has sparked significant political debate in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the previous Congress government of introducing a weak ordinance in 2019, which raised OBC reservations from 14 to 27 percent. Conversely, the Congress party claims that the BJP has betrayed the interests of backward classes.
