Uttar Pradesh Government Intensifies Flood Relief Efforts in Faizullaganj

The UP government is ramping up flood relief operations in Faizullaganj, ensuring aid reaches affected families swiftly.

Faizullaganj, Lucknow, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : The Uttar Pradesh government is actively working to provide relief to families affected by recent floods and restore normalcy in the region. On Friday, Suresh Kumar Khanna, the state’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, inspected flood-hit areas in Faizullaganj, Lucknow, to assess ongoing relief and rescue operations.

During his visit, Khanna reviewed the situation at the municipal corporation’s control room, focusing on monitoring affected areas, addressing complaints, and tracking the progress of relief efforts. He instructed officials to ensure timely delivery of relief materials, clean drinking water, and essential services to each impacted family.

Khanna emphasized that aiding affected families is a primary responsibility of the government. He urged all departments to work in coordination to ensure no gaps in relief efforts. He also directed officials to expedite water drainage and pay special attention to the daily needs of residents in affected neighborhoods.

Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar reported that the rising water levels of the Gomti River have impacted approximately 6,500 homes over an area of about eight kilometers, affecting around 50,000 residents. Teams from the municipal corporation and administration are continuously working to provide relief, focusing on temporary shelters, water supply, food distribution, sanitation, and health safety measures.

The minister instructed regular dispatch of water tankers to the affected areas and advised residents against using submersible pumps to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. He also called for the assessment of septic tanks in flooded homes and directed cleaning efforts using suction machines, along with sanitation and anti-larval spraying campaigns. Drone spraying was also suggested where necessary.

Khanna ordered the preparation of walkable paths for residents in the affected neighborhoods. He emphasized the need for planning essential infrastructure, including interlocking roads, to mitigate future flooding issues.

Mayor Sushma Kharkwal instructed the Municipal Commissioner to deploy all available water tankers and mobile toilets to affected areas, ensuring families do not face difficulties in accessing clean water and sanitation. She stressed the importance of cleaning and sanitizing homes, streets, and public spaces alongside drainage efforts.

Khanna estimated that it would take about a week for water to fully recede from the affected areas. However, he noted that cleaning, insecticide spraying, and sanitation campaigns would need to continue for another 10 to 12 days to minimize health risks and restore normalcy.

He praised the efforts of volunteer organizations and social groups assisting in relief operations. Khanna also pointed out the necessity of developing permanent solutions to prevent future flooding in Faizullaganj, including assessing the feasibility of protective measures like embankments along the riverbanks. He directed relevant officials to prepare necessary proposals for submission to the government.

Mayor Kharkwal reiterated that municipal teams are consistently deployed in affected areas, taking essential steps to improve access to clean water, food, sanitation, health safety, and mobility. She instructed officials to maintain continuous oversight to ensure no shortcomings in relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Khanna mentioned that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has conducted aerial surveys of the affected regions and provided necessary directives for relief operations. Additionally, Defence Minister and local MP Rajnath Singh has visited the areas to assess the situation and check on relief efforts. He clarified that relief and rehabilitation work will continue until normalcy is restored, with the government striving to ensure every affected family receives the support they need.
