Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opens Assam Bhawan in Bengaluru, aiming to boost job opportunities and strengthen ties with Karnataka.

Bengaluru, October 16 (Daily Kiran) : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially inaugurated the newly constructed Assam Bhawan in Bengaluru on October 16. During the ceremony, he emphasized the state’s commitment to creating ample job opportunities over the next decade. The goal is to curb the migration of skilled youth and encourage them to return to their home state.
Built at an estimated cost of ₹71.24 crore, the four-story building serves as a home away from home for Assamese students, patients, government officials, and other visitors in Karnataka’s capital.
Sarma described the Assam Bhawan not just as a government guesthouse, but as a symbol of the state government’s dedication to the welfare of its people. He noted that the facility also aims to strengthen ties between Assam and Karnataka.
Spanning 16,249 square meters, the building features seven VIP suites, 26 mini-suites, 36 double-occupancy rooms, and a 26-bed dormitory. It is equipped with conference rooms, a banquet hall, a restaurant, a library, and recreational facilities.
Reflecting on the project’s history, Sarma shared that five acres of land were acquired in 2008, but construction faced delays due to land classification issues until necessary approvals were secured in 2016. The construction resumed in May 2022 and was completed in three years.
Highlighting Assam’s industrial growth, the Chief Minister mentioned that investment agreements worth approximately ₹5 lakh crore have been signed, with ₹4 lakh crore worth of projects already underway. He pointed to the semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, the proposed Namrup fertilizer plant, power projects, a satellite city near Guwahati airport, and aircraft maintenance facilities as key sources of employment.
Sarma expressed confidence that these initiatives would help retain Assam’s skilled workforce and attract professionals currently working abroad back to the state. He urged Assamese individuals living outside the state to act as ambassadors by showcasing Assam’s development and investment potential to attract entrepreneurs and investors.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced plans to inaugurate two more Assam Bhawans in Delhi in November and December, with similar facilities planned for Mumbai and Kolkata. The event was attended by General Administration Minister Keshav Mahant and Karnataka MLA S.T. Somasekhar.
