Madhya Pradesh, April 25: Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Deora announced on Friday that the state government is focusing on expanding medical education and strengthening healthcare infrastructure to address the shortage of doctors and improve treatment quality.
Speaking at the Indira Gandhi District Hospital in Mandsaur, Deora highlighted that ensuring adequate availability of doctors, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, remains a significant challenge. He stated that the state government is continuously working to enhance healthcare facilities. By opening more medical colleges, the government aims to gradually reduce the shortage of doctors at health centers.
Deora further mentioned that the government is working to establish a medical college in every district. This initiative will allow students to pursue medical education within the state and contribute to local healthcare services after graduation. He emphasized that this will improve the availability of doctors and ensure timely treatment for the public.
Currently, Madhya Pradesh has approximately 21 government medical colleges, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal. This number has increased in recent years, with new institutions opened in districts like Shyopur and Singrauli. The state government also plans to expand medical education through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Proposals are in place to upgrade existing district hospitals and establish new medical colleges in districts such as Dhar, Betul, Panna, and Katni. During the event, Deora inaugurated a new 100-bed ward built at a cost of ₹7.50 crore and a 100-bed ‘Maternal and Child Health’ (MCH) building constructed at a cost of ₹17.29 crore.
He also laid the foundation stone for the Chandkhedi Phanta-Khajuria road project, which cost ₹4.73 crore. Deora stated that the new facilities at the district hospital would enhance treatment, particularly for women and children, and reduce the burden on larger hospitals. Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh remarked that healthcare facilities play a crucial role in society, and the new MCH building will benefit mothers.
